  Events

CoLA's Biennial Auction was a successful event held in October 2004. We wish to thank all of the art and premium donors, the sponsors and donors who could not attend the event, the attendees and the purchasers, the volunteers, and the board members who helped put this event together, and who helped make it such a success. Thanks, also, to our UNDERWRITING SPONSORS who made this event possible.

CoLA will hold several social and fundraising events during 2005. Stay tuned for more information.

  Education

Colorado Lawyers for the Arts (CoLA) presents a pro-active series of compelling discussions that are a must for artists wanting concise information and affordable access to prominent attorneys who deal with arts related matters. The information presented in these seminars will help you to protect yourself and your art for the rest of your life!

THREE-PART SERIES

  • Part I: Taxes, Licenses and Contracts

How do I form just the right business for me? How are contracts drafted? Is my artwork taxable? How do I protect my work and myself from legal action? Topics covered in Part I include legally related business issues most often encountered by artists such as: business entity formation, taxes, licenses and contracts.

  • Part II: Copyrights, Trademarks, Art and the Internet

Why and how do I copyright my art? What is a trademark? Am I protected if my art appears on the Internet? Who really owns my work? Your artwork is Intellectual Property and must be protected. This presentation provides access to prominent Denver arts attorneys who show you how you can protect and profit from your work using legal tools available to you.

  • Part III: Art, Free Expression and the Law

What does the Constitution guarantee an artist? How is a gallery, art center or museum protected from censorship? What responsibilities does an artist have to a funding agency? This seminal presentation addresses a topic of great importance and confusion for artists and arts organizations. A panel of arts attorneys and others will discuss this often-misunderstood topic in an affordable and informal setting. This seminar has been developed by popular demand from the arts community.
